Letter from our Director
June 2010
Greetings,
Before his election, President Obama was asked what he hoped to accomplish during his first 100 days. “I would call my attorney general in and review every single executive order issued by George Bush and overturn those laws or executive decisions that I feel violate the Constitution,” said Obama. Yet on the promise of an executive order that would prohibit federal funding for abortions, Rep Stupak and the few pro-life Democrats that promised to vote no voted yes and the health care bill passed. Unbelievable. He can overturn it. On Fox News, Rep. Bart Stupak stated, ”there is nothing that would stop this president from a month from now, a year from now, ten years from now, of repealing this executive order.” Unbelievable! The only promise I am aware of that our president has kept was he got his daughters a dog.
As I write this, the Senate is preparing for confirmation hearings on President Obama’s second Supreme Court nominee, Elena Hagan, which are scheduled to begin June 28. This nominee is troubling for a number of reasons, one of which is her lack of any judicial experience whatsoever. Others are her attempts to ban military recruiters from the Harvard Campus because she disagrees with the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy. She has revealed her pro-abortion views by being openly critical of federal bans on taxpayer-funded abortions. Another concern is that Senate Judiciary Chairman Pat Leahy insists on proceeding on June 28, even though the committee has been told it may not have 160,000 pages of documents that it requested from Kagan’s time in the Clinton administration by that date. Since Kagan has no judicial experience, and therefore no decisions to review, the committee needs these documents to make an informed choice on her confirmation. Please contact your Senators and express concerns about these issues. Simply call the Capitol Switchboard @ 202-224-3121 and ask for your senator’s office. The senators for North Carolina are Kay Hagan and Richard Burr.
I would like to thank everyone who works to make Life Chain happen. Carolina Christian Radio, K-Love and Wilmington Catholic Radio are generous with airtime. Freedom Baptist Church, Scotts Hill Baptist Church and Austin Corp. allow us to use their facilities. Thanks to all the pastors and contact persons who coordinate within each church that participates in Life Chain. Thanks to those of you who help me make the calls, do the printing, get the letters out, sort and count posters and work at the tent. A very special thanks to those who provide vehicles. If Life Chain is a success, it is because of your dedication and hard work. Thank you.
We must continue to stand and speak for those who are unable to do so for themselves. Please be in much prayer for this year’s Life Chain.
